DA(LIT) FEMINISM AND WRITING

Vimal sets out to work on the filth in Mumbai as the day breaks over the city In a city that generates 7700 tons of garbage in a day, Vimal's job is to scoop it up, bin it, rinse and repeat. She, as most Dalits, find that they are offered these jobs rather than any other. That's one pile done in half an hour. Vimal gives it a good push. A smile helps her ease off the sheer drudgery, makes her forget that she doesn't even have the proper equipment or safety gear for this work.  Vimal lights the dry garbage where it's collected. The fire in her belly is a different one, the fire in her heart another story altogether Vimal, steps into the public lavatory space, this work is more demanding than what she just finished While Vimal cleans the lavatory The smell spreads and eventually it gets unbearable for Vimal, but she still continues her job. While Vimal continues, governments change and anchors debate.

A CLASH WITHIN

"Nobody has the right to declare to a parent what faith their child should follow. Nobody has the right to deny a woman or her child the right to follow a faith. Self-appointed keepers of the faith would do well to practice their brand of fanaticism in their own homes, instead of telling us to do the same when it comes to following our religion. Zoroastrianism is a “universal religion for all mankind” in Zarathustra’s own words and they would do well to remember that"  - Sanaya Dalal #Parsis #discrimination #gender #genderdiscrimination #genderdivide  #womensright #faithormarriage #feminism #parsiwomen #qissaeparsi #interfaithmarriages
